JABETH SENA JEPATH A. DACANAY started her career as an associate in a full service law firm handling various areas of legal practice. She has extensive experience and background in the maritime industry having served the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) for almost two decades.

Ms Dacanay was Deputy Executive Director of the STCW Office and, in a concurrent capacity, as Chief of Staff of then MARINA Administrator Dr. Maximo Q Mejia Jr from 2013 to 2016.
Ms Dacanay joined the World Maritime University (WMU) and graduated in October 2003 with the degree of Master of Science (MSc) in Maritime Affairs.

She obtained her Bachelor of Laws degree from the Far Eastern University in 1997 and was admitted to the Philippine Bar in 1998. She is a member of the Quezon City Chapter of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines.

Ms Dacanay is also a research fellow at Cardiff University and worked as legal adviser and researcher at the Seafarers Rights International in London, United Kingdom.

Her vast knowledge and practice on international laws, maritime conventions and contemporary issues on the maritime industry and maritime affairs has brought to fore her significant exposure and participation to legislative and administrative undertakings that transformed various IMO Conventions to domestic legislation and regulations.
She has authored various papers with proposed legislative agenda submitted to the Philippine Congress and administrative agencies on maritime-related concerns.

Ms Dacanay is completing thesis work for PhD studies at Cardiff University in Wales, United Kingdom.
